Laguna Creek High School to offer two International Baccalaureate Informational Nights
Laguna Creek High School’s International Baccalaureate (IB) Programme will hold two Informational Nights on Tuesday, January 17 and Wednesday, January 18, 2012 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. on both nights. The informational nights will cover an overview of the IB Programme and its curriculum, requirements and the enrollment process. Laguna Creek High School is the first high school in the Elk Grove Unified School District to offer this program. Laguna Creek is also one of only four high schools in Sacramento County to offer the IB Programme. “We are pleased to be able to offer this exemplary academic program to our students,” said Doug Craig, principal at Laguna Creek. “The International Baccalaureate Programme will give students looking for an extra challenge in their studies the opportunity to participate in a program that is recognized by leading universities around the world.” Laguna Creek welcomed its first IB class in Fall 2011. As “World Scholars,” freshmen and sophomores take honors and advanced courses which prepare them for this program. The IB Programme offers juniors and seniors a broad, balanced and rigorous curriculum. Students in the IB Diploma Programme take six subjects, which usually include one from each subject group: English A Literature; Language Acquisition B; History Route 2; mathematics; the arts; and experimental sciences. Students also write a 4,000 word extended essay, complete a course in Theory of Knowledge and complete a number of creativity, action and service projects.
